Competition report Wirral Metro Open meet

30-1st October 2017

The Elite Squad national Development Squad took the trip to the Wirral to race in the season opening competition hosted by Wirral metro sc.

The meet was a success with many Pb’s and new speed gained. We ended the meet with at least 5 new county records, three from Matthew Richards and two from Niamh Hofland. The aim of the meet was to work on technique and develop the race craft that will enable much faster swimming later in the season.

As always we had a fantastic team atmosphere from support to singing from the swimmers and excellent support from our parents in the stands.

The National Development squads first meet of the season saw the swimmers travel to Birkenhead on Merseyside.

This is very much a prep meet where the swimmers try to practice and embed skills and technique under race conditions, which they have worked on in the early weeks of training. This will help them as they go deeper in to the season and head towards the Championship meets.

We had several new swimmers Theo Clark, Alex Jones, Phoebe Johnson and Emily Tite racing with us for the first time, all performing and acquitting themselves well.

The swimmers all made improvements in their skills and gained lots of best times in the process.

There is a noticeable improvement in the squad’s team spirit, pre/post-race preparation and overall skill level from this time last year. The Challenge is to move it on to our second preparation meet in Wigan in a few weeks’ time.

Bring on the next meet!
