Wigan BEST Future Stars Open Meet 2017
17th-19th November 2017
The Elite and National Development Squad headed north last weekend for our first visit to the Wigan Best meet and second targeted open meet of the season.
Friday evening saw the distance events where the tone was set for a highly successful weekend with RWS swimmers breaking 19 meet records!
The aim of the meet was to see whether improvements have been made since the first meet 6 weeks previous. Fitness has been built up and skills being honed in the early short course season. Confidence was high.
Swimmers making their debuts for RWS were Morgan Lerpiniere, Ethan Giles and Eve Williams. All produced great performances and started to show real promise for later in the season.
The coaching team were impressed by both squads with swimmers shooting up the early season short course rankings and gaining confidence from racing well. There was an excellent team spirit as always and much improved skills.
One of many outstanding swims came from young Matt Richards who broke a Welsh National Junior sc record on the final day with a superb 51.77 in 100 freestyle. Meet records were broken by Matt Richards, Chloe Harris, Bethany Smith, George Barber, Alicia Dingle, Holly Shepherd, Niamh Hofland and Eve Williams.
This all added up to a thoroughly enjoyable, satisfying and productive weekend at a well-run meet. This culminated in RWS winning the top club prize, for which we received a nice trophy and some great tweets…
